Chalke Valley Stores

The Chalke Valley Stores, situated in Broad Chalke in the URC Chapel, was opened by Sir Terry Pratchett on June 22 2013 and on May 1st 2014, less than a year after opening they were voted winners of the Countryside Alliance best village shop and post office. Chalke Valley Stores is very much the centre of the village and also of the wider community which it serves, providing a shop, post office, coffee shop serving delicious lunches and other light refreshments, meeting place and being in the chapel it is still very much used as a place of worship. The Chalke Valley Stores and coffee shop is run by a team of full and part time staff with the support of nearly 100 volunteers – a marvellous example of a successful community project and one that will help ensure the continuation of this supportive rural community.

Heale House Coffee Shop

Heale House Coffee Shop sits at the entrance to Heale House gardens on the banks of the River Avon. Delicious light lunches and tea are available and Laura and Jo always make you feel most welcome. The warm cosy tea room with a wide range of interesting gifts make it an ideal place to visit in cooler times of the year and the river bank position with outdoor seating overlooking the water meadows make it the perfect place for a few hours on a warm summers day. Walkers and cyclists would find Heale House Coffee Shop a perfect refreshment break during their travels. Ian ensures that Heale Plant Centre has a wonderful selection of plants with plenty of choice for each season.

The gardens of Heale House itself are open for a large part of the year, starting with the snowdrop walk in February. The gardens are beautifully kept and in an idyllic spot. The house which dates from the later part of the sixteenth century has a fascinating history.

The nursery and farm shop are situated on the Leckford Estate in the picturesque Test Valley near Stockbridge, Hampshire. The nursery holds a wide range of plants from mature trees to alpines and the farm shop is well stocked with fresh produce. Contained within the same building as the shop is a super cafe serving meals from breakfast through to tea. The Longstock Park Water Garden is also on the estate, this is a unique garden with a fascinating history.

Porton Garden, Aquatic and Pets Centre

Allow plenty of time for a visit – there are masses of interesting things to see. The centre is stocked with a very wide range of products for all gardens including water gardens. Pets and all kinds of fish are well catered for with toys, bedding, food, and all manner of other things to keep them healthy and happy. There is a fascinating selection of animals to see, including reptiles and birds. The gift shop sells a variety of sweets and ice creams as well as gifts.

Sarum College Bookshop

The book shop is situated on the ground floor of the college which is in the beautiful close of Salisbury Cathedral. The shop holds a wide range of Christian and theological books, this coupled with its quiet, friendly and peaceful atmosphere makes browsing a necessity.

The Salisbury branch of Waitrose is a ideal place to shop, have a cup of coffee or a quick lunch. The shop also stocks a wide range of quality plants and planted containers which are perfect as gifts.

The Bluebell Railway Line, East Sussex.

The Bluebell Railway Line runs for approximately 11 miles through a beautiful stretch of countryside and each station has been meticulously restored to a specific point in the history of the original railway. A wide range of steam trains are in service and diesel engines also run on specific weekends. Please see their website for further details including bluebell excursions in the spring. Well worth a visit.

Wilton House Garden Centre.

Wilton House Garden Centre, part of the Blue Diamond Group, offers a fantastic range of plants and arrangements all year round.

Situated just off the A36 at Wilton by the River Wylye it is the perfect place to browse for plants for the house or garden, look at garden furniture, stock up on composts and fertilizer or just look for new ideas on their display benches. There are also refreshments available at the Riverside Restaurant, a very pleasant way to round off your visit. A large range of George’s cards are offered for sale along with several of George’s photographs mounted and framed or mounted as canvases.
